My Approach
About Dr. Shoemaker
After graduating from Hendrix College (Conway, Arkansas) with a B.A. in Psychology, I received my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Indiana State University in 1995. I opened my practice in California in 1997, and in 2020 I relocated to Chapel Hill, North Carolina. In addition to my clinical work, I have served as an adjunct faculty member at Indiana State University and California State University, Sacramento, at various points over the years. In my free time, I enjoy music, cooking, meditation, travel and hiking.
"I began working with Dr. Shoemaker during a midlife career transition. What I appreciate most about Dr. Shoemaker's approach is its holistic nature. I don't view my life as compartmentalized, and my career choices have many implications for other aspects of my life. The support I received helped me gain confidence as I worked to acquire new skills and strategies that serve me now rather than rely on old ways of doing things that I had outgrown. I also benefited from Dr. Shoemaker's expertise as a therapist as I navigated an illness and death within my family. Dr. Shoemaker is very approachable and I always felt at ease during our meetings. If you are looking for someone to support you in figuring out the next steps in your life or career, I suggest you reach out."
